Lavender: The Plant of Peace, Power, and Protection, ‘A healer’s lens on a timeless ingredient’

Lavender: A Soulful Companion

I’ve always had a special connection with lavender. Since I was 17, I’ve looked to it as a guide, a symbol of the kind of person I wanted to be. Lavender doesn’t fix; it simply soothes. Back then, I was drawn to its quiet strength and grace, and I wanted to reflect those same qualities in how I showed up in the world. Now, at 27, not much has changed, except that I’ve grown into the kind of life that lets me explore this connection more deeply. I work with energy through tarot and intuition, and I’ve founded a perfume brand, Meyander, rooted in intention and self-discovery. Over time, lavender has become more than a symbol, it’s a spiritual balm. It clears away what’s tangled, lightens what feels heavy, and helps me return to my rhythm when I’ve lost it. To me, lavender feels like that friend who doesn’t need to say much but somehow just makes everything feel a little bit easier.

Lavender has been used for centuries in rituals of healing and protection, from ancient Roman baths to bundles hung in homes to ward off illness. What’s beautiful is how modern science now supports what many have always felt intuitively. Lavender helps relax the nervous system, ease anxiety, and support deeper rest. Its natural anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties only add to its reputation as a truly supportive, multi-dimensional plant. It’s gentle but incredibly effective, a quiet kind of strength.

As soon as it touches the skin or enters a space, lavender brings in a sense of ease. It’s like the body instinctively knows it can start to let go. It makes it easier to feel grounded and connected at the same time. You can feel a slight shift, a subtle return to yourself. One of the simplest ways I work with lavender is through oil or balm, especially right before bed. I apply a small amount to my wrists, temples, and just behind my ears. The moment it touches my skin, I feel a slight tingling, almost like my body recognizes it’s time to unwind. Within minutes, my mind starts to slow down and sync with my body’s rhythm. The scent is soft, floral, and grounding, and it signals to me that it’s safe to let go of the day.

Over time, it’s become a ritual my body looks forward to. On days when I feel especially anxious, I’ll do the same during the day to create a moment of pause. Lavender won’t solve everything, but it creates just enough space for you to breathe, reset, and approach what’s in front of you with calmly and with more clarity. Its energy is clearing and gentle, helping to quiet the mind and settle the nervous system. It supports rest not just physically but energetically too, softening the weight we carry mentally and emotionally. Lavender naturally supports balance in the crown and third eye chakras, helping to clear mental fog and open space for clarity and intuition.

The essence and quiet strength of lavender have been woven into my life for as long as I can remember. It’s not my favorite flower in the traditional sense, but it reflects the version of myself I strive to lead with: grounded, kind, and graceful. For years, I imagined capturing this tattoo, a sprig of lavender intertwined with a sunflower. Lavender for healing, softness, and compassion; sunflower for positivity, charm, and the playful energy I never want to lose. That mental image became more than just a tattoo design, it became a map for how I want to move through the world and how I want to run Meyander. I created this brand to offer more than just perfume. I wanted scent to become an experience, a tool for grounding and intention. Lavender, with its ability to promote calmness and inner stability, is a part of that vision. It represents the space I hope Meyander holds for others: gentle, supportive, and aligned.

They say things come full circle, and I truly believe that. Writing about a flower that has held so much meaning in my life, for a publication called The Lavenderoom, no less, feels like a quiet nudge from the universe. I’m taking it as a sign to keep going. To keep creating blends with the hope that they help others reconnect with themselves, find stillness in the chaos, and move forward with clarity, softness, and heart.

At Meyander, we are core believers that scent elevates energy. So, today, I’d like to leave you with 5 ways lavender can elevate your energy:

1. Lavender Oils, Balms & Lotions: A ritual with lavender-infused lotion isn’t just skincare; it’s an energizing moment of presence. The scent uplifts while touch re-centers. You can even use it to wind down at night like I do.
2. A Fresh Lavender Bouquet: If you’re curious about lavender but are reluctant to try a product, place a bouquet where you work or rest. Pause. Observe. Breathe it in. Let the visual calm and scent energize your space and mind.

3. Lavender Massage: A massage with lavender-scented oil and a glowing lavender candle in the room can release stuck energy and tension. Perhaps you’ll walk away lighter, clearer, and deeply recharged.
4. Lavender Tea: Sipping lavender tea brings a soft clarity, calm yet alert. Perfect for mid-day resets or winding down without losing your spark.
5. Lavender Perfume: Lastly, try a perfume with lavender notes. This is the most promising way to carry its scent with you all day!

If lavender is calling to you in any way, I invite you to explore that connection. Not through rules or expectations but through sensation and intuition. Notice how it makes you feel. Let it be something you experience in your own way, at your own pace. Whether it’s the scent, the energy, or the calm it brings, lavender has a way of meeting you exactly where you are. Trust that, and let it guide you back to yourself.
