 I Tried The Kundalini Yoga Workshop And Here’s What Happened 

In the vibrant city of New Delhi, I stepped into a serene wellness studio where my journey with Kundalini yoga began. The air was thick with anticipation and excitement as people of all ages and backgrounds gathered to learn from the renowned yogi, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa.

With her radiant smile and a twinkle in her eyes, Khalsa lit up the room with her presence and warmly welcomed the attendees. At 82, she exuded an energy that belied her age, a testament to her lifelong dedication to the practice of yoga. As she spoke on the workshop’s theme, ‘Thunder power of love’, her words flowed like honey, weaving a tapestry of wisdom and ancient yogic teachings.

WHAT IS KUNDALINI YOGA? 

Kundalini yoga, I learnt, is a holistic practice that transcends physical postures. It aims to awaken the Kundalini energy, a dormant force coiled at the base of the spine. According to Khalsa, an individual’s youthfulness is directly correlated with the health of their spine. Through specific breathing techniques, postures, and meditation, practitioners can work on their spine and tap into the Kundalini energy, leading to a profound transformation of the mind, body, and soul. 

WHAT TO EXPECT?

As I embarked on my first Kundalini yoga class, a sense of wonder and curiosity washed over me. The practice was unlike anything I had experienced before. It was a blend of rhythmic breathing, powerful postures, and meditative chanting. The movements were fluid and graceful, yet challenging enough to engage my entire body. With each breath and each movement, I felt a surge of energy coursing through my veins. My mind, usually racing with thoughts, began to slow down. A sense of peace and tranquility enveloped me, washing away the stresses of everyday life.

The culmination of the class was a guided meditation, where we were invited to focus our attention on the Kundalini energy. As I closed my eyes, I felt a tingling sensation at the base of my spine. Gradually, it intensified, spreading like a warm embrace throughout my entire body. In that moment, time seemed to stand still. I felt a profound connection to something greater than myself. It was an experience that words cannot fully describe. When the meditation ended, I opened my eyes with a sense of awe and gratitude.

Kundalini yoga has become an integral part of my life. It has not only improved my physical flexibility but has also brought about a deep transformation within. It has taught me to embrace my true self, to cultivate inner peace, and to live with greater awareness and compassion.

I am eternally grateful to Khalsa for sharing her wisdom and guidance. Kundalini yoga now feels like a pathway for self-discovery, healing, and transformation. It is a practice that I hold dear and continue to embrace with an open heart and an inquisitive mind.
