Confessions of a Lipstick Addict & the 9 Best Ones to Get This #NationalLipstickDay2024

It’s true, I never leave my house without lipstick — it’s always in my bag, on my lips, wherever I go. I’m that friend who carries multiple lipstick options, stored safely in my little makeup pouch. This paraphernalia ranges from liquid mattes, matte-mattes, sheer tints, balmy tints, glossy tints, good ol’ creamy bullets and of course, an all-round lip balm (the stickier the better, please, I like my lips super hydrated at all times).

So while there are some classics that I will always cherish, I’m almost always rotating and trying out new formulas and shades that suit my mood. Here’s a little secret: you’ll never be able to tell the exact shade I’m wearing because most often, I mix two to get the perfect colour I’ve envisioned with my look. Here, for National Lipstick Day, I am noting down my current favourites, glide ‘em on for a full-on pout or my favourite way to wear a lippie: two dots and blend away with your fingertip for the most gorgeous wash of colour.

  1. Dior Addict Lip Glow in ‘Raspberry’

All the lipstick girlies love it and for good reason. It’s not really a lipstick, yet gives you just the right amount of barely-there colour plus moisture-boost. It really makes your lips glow, and gives you that my-lips-but-better feeling, and that’s probably why we all love it.

  1. Lisa Eldridge True Velvet Lip Colour in ‘Velvet Morning’
lipstick

This one’s special, not just because it was a gift from a dear colleague who’s as obsessed with beauty but also, I’ve never met a matte as pretty looking and true to its name as Lisa Eldridge’s True Velvets. It looks like it was made of soft velvet, and applying this lipstick feels like a gentle, plush caress. Plus, this hot-orange red is that one statement-making number every girl should have, for times when you just gotta show them how it’s done.

  1. NARS Power Matte Lipstick in ‘Dragon Girl’
lipstick

My go-to for a power-red lip. This is one of my favourite reds not just because of its cool-toned vividness but also because it glides on like butter, feels like nothing on your lips, yet stays on like a real matte.

  1. Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint in ‘Bare Cherry’

Everyone should have a cherry orange in their kit to brighten up a dull day. This tinted lip treatment provides a sheer wash of cheerful colour onto dry lips, instantly hydrating them with its mix of botanical oils

  1. Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution in ‘Mrs Kisses’
lipstick

A creamy, rosy nude, gliding it on your lips is a dream. Plus, I love the crystalised bejeweled bullet — it’s as pretty on the outside as it is on your lips!

  1. Flossy Cosmetics In Therapy Liquid Lipstick in ‘Playdate’

I found the perfect nude lipstick, yet again. Besides the could-wear-you-all-day-everyday shade, it’s the air-like light texture that makes you want to reach for it every time.

  1. Mamaearth Soft Matte Long Stay Lipstick in ‘Petal Pink’

I used to shy away from soft pink lipsticks as I didn’t think they’d suit my skin tone, until I stopped caring so much and tried it on anyway. This warm-toned pink lipstick  is a great everyday-wear shade that has the potential to look good on almost every skin colour.

  1. M.A.C Powder Kiss Lip Colour in ‘Devoted to Chilli’
MAC national lipstick day

I’m a retro girl at heart so I love a good brown lipstick. This yummy, richly-pigmented, copper-coloured lipstick is not exactly a true-brown but a rather bricky brown, but it’s such a cool-girl shade with a unique mousse-like texture — great for those who want to give brown a shot but have been hesitant to put it on.

  1. FAE Beauty Lip Whip in ‘Grind’
Far lipstick Grind

I like how the name is so apt for why I like this one — great for the daily grind where you don’t want to worry too much about touch ups. Most times this liquid lippie lasts long enough to take you from 9-5. It’s a true matte that doesn’t feel too heavy or dry on the lips. But as with any matte lipstick I always apply a light layer of lip balm before.
